I'm so excited to show off these new goodies! My mom actually requested these Gallery Mounted prints and I loved them so much I thought, hey, why not add them to the products I offer! Don't they look so clean and modern? And the best part is they come ready to hang!

Secondly, I am now offering Image Preview Boxes. I am just in LOVE with these things! Each box is handmade, wrapped in a silk cover and holds up to (150) 5x7 prints. I love that the covers are totally customizable too.

On rare occasions Asa will ask me to take his picture. I almost turned him down this day because it was at the end of a long work day, I was tired and it was SO hot outside. But reasoning kicked in and said "hey idiot! Get up and oblige this kid!" And I'm so glad I did! These are some of my favorite pictures of him. They're just spur of the moment, in front of our house with beautiful evening light. Asa's school has special dress-up days during the summer...like PJ day, super hero day, or whatever. This day it was Cowboy Day and he was so thrilled with his outfit that he actually wanted me to take his picture. I usually have to work really hard to get him to cooporate for pics...but as you can see he is such a ham when it's his idea. Too bad I can't get this all the time. What a tease...

These adorable barretts came from Little Chirpy Bird and Chloe is modeling a few for their Etsy store. You should check them out! Their barretts are so cute and perfect for little heads. I'm not crazy about big bows and I also don't like alligator clips. And for some strange reason it's really hard to find cute, small barrets when you don't like these 2 things. I searched high and low on Etsy until I finally stumbled on these. I just love them!

The Wedding Day

...here is my "view" from Carla's wedding day. As you can tell I was rather snap happy. For one thing, the villa was absolutely incredible! Every where you looked were amazing details and beautiful landscaping. And another thing, I was nervous as hell! and taking pictures calms me down. My mind is too busy trying to find something interesting to shoot to be worried about standing in a wedding....in front of lots of people...in a hot chapel....gulp. It ended up being fine though...piece of cake actually. But I was so relieved when it was over and I'm pretty sure I knocked back my first glass of champagne in one gulp.

one of my best friends got married in Austin this weekend and Asa and I were both in the wedding. We had a blast!! We stayed in an awesome condo on Lake Travis. It was technically supposed to be an island but the water was so low the island is now part of the main land! ha It was still fun though. Asa keeps saying he wants to go back on vacation. Yeah kid me too!! I took SO many photos but these are just a few of my favorites. Since I was in the wedding I didn't get to shoot it but I took some really awesome detail shots. The wedding venue was SO beautiful! Hopefully I'll get to those soon!

A lost friend...

...we lost our beloved blanket this weekend on a trip to Austin. I'm not sure who's more upset me or Asa. It was knitted with love and given to me at my baby shower and Asa slept with it every single night. He never became a "Linus" or anything as it was always restricted to the crib/bed. But if he got sent to his room for being bad we always found him later sitting on his bed with his blankie in his lap. When he was sick it made him feel better, when we were away from home it gave him comfort, when he wanted to shut the world out it went over his head...which was every morning! As an infant we played peek a boo with it. he used it for teething (seriously, he chewed holes in it!). Oh the memories!! And to top it off, we think we figured out where we lost it. At a gas station. So it probably fell out of the car as we made a pit stop and there it was left. To be run over and destroyed like it was meaningless only to be found later and just... thrown away. I'll just pretend that a nice family found it and they had a baby who needed a blanket.

It was time to move on from the blankie anyway since Asa is now 4 but I always intended to keep it. ::sigh:: Oh well. Bye blankie, we will miss you.

Sean and I figured out how to shoot fireworks this weekend. It was a group effort. These are all his captures. I thought they came out great. These are just home fireworks so they aren't SPECTACULAR or anything but we'll definitely be hauling the tripod out to the fireworks show next year! The tripod is key! If anybody is interested we used ISO 100, F16, 6 sec shutter speed

Just a few from this weekend....she turned 8 months on Friday. Woo hoo! We've had some teething issues that seem to be interupting her (our) sleep....so it's been a sleepless weekend! Hopefully that will pass soon.

She's just getting so big and changing every day. She's only DAYS away from crawling. She wants to do it so bad! You can see the determination. She's also very clingy these days. Her favorite thing to do is sit on my hip while I walk around and clean. I seriously think she could do it all day!! As a matter of fact, that's pretty much what she DID do all day yesterday. My wrists ache from holding her. I think I might try to find one of those hip slings. It would really help!

She's still just as sweet as ever and has kind of a "gentle soul" way about her. Which I'm sure will change soon! She's still completely crazy about Asa. In fact, if you see her smiling in any of my pictures, she's probably smiling at Asa. I can't seem to get her to smile like that for me. She just looks at me blankly, like, "why am I here...and you are there." And then she starts whining to be picked up.

P.S. I hope everyone can appreciate the baby chucks hanging from the rear view mirror and skeleton elvis stick shift in the Bug. hehe.

A couple of weeks ago, I was contacted by Lynn to take photos for her eHarmony profile. I had never done anything like this before but I knew EXACTLY what I wanted to do. It needed to be a more "lifestyle" shoot to really convey her personality. I mean, she's going to be putting these photos out there to say "hey world, this is me!" So I really tried to incorporate as much of HER into the photos as I could. I had an absolute blast and I hope I did her justice! Thanks for a great afternoon...and for the glass of wine afterwards! :)

On a side note, I changed up how my photos are displayed. I'm not sure about it. I feel like I want to comment on the photos but I can't. What do you think?

What to Wear

On occasion I have been asked "so what do we wear anyway?" This is a good question since clothing will later set the tone of the photos. Personally, I don't like matching outfits. It just doesn't seem natural. Where in the wild have you ever seen a family of 4 all wearing matching white shirts and jeans?!?! Umm...unless they're on their way to a photo shoot! lol.
No. Coordinated outfits over matching outfits anyday! It just adds originality and variety to the photos.

Anyway, I'm supposed to have my own family photos taken next month and I put this together for inspiration. It's my own personal style so it may not exactly suit everyone's taste but maybe it could be used as a reference point. Cheers!

The annual Darrian & BJ visit kicked off with a bang! Every year I'm amazed at how much they've grown and how completely gorgeous they are. They are incredibly sweet children and Asa loves them so much. I'm hoping we can find time to go out for a real shoot soon!

Meet Fred, a Harlequin Great Dane, who was almost doggy-napped by a crazy photographer lady. This was an extra special day for Fred because he got to sit on the furniture, which he's not allowed on. But that furniture was just way too cool not too. I later whispered in Fred's ear that it's ok to sit on the furniture when his Daddy isn't home...hehe.

And this shot MUST be revisited in a year. It will make an awesome comparison shot. At just 10 weeks old here, this dog is going to be massive!

This one made me laugh...doesn't he look like Snoopy dancing right here? You KNOW... when Snoopy throws his head in the air and does some kind of a beatnik happy dance.

And what had me in stitches for days...You've got to click on it to get the full view. It's worth it! lol

I am just in love with these images. I am so pleased there are mom's out there that "get it" and want to do this for their children. There is just something so special about the mother/child bond that naturally comes out in photographs. Sure Dad's are great...and they love their kids but there is just no replacing Mom. I read a quote a while back that I've always loved "having children is deciding to let your heart go walking outside your body forever" I know mother's truly feel this way.

I'm trying to stick to black & white with these but just look at this red hair and green eyes! How could I NOT show it in color too?!

We had an "incredible" super hero party for Asa this weekend!

The line-up included...

Bouncy Ball Girl - Don't let this sweet face fool you. Her rubber ball packs a mighty punch. She can leave you helpless (or knock over expensive china) quicker than you can say "Holy Rusted Metal Batman!"

Skele-Hulk Lee Man - this is one super hero I wouldn't want to tango with. He can scare you stiff with his beady skeleten eyes, all the while karate chopping you down to the ground. He's got a nasty left hook too.

Wolverden - "Argh....I'm the best there is at what I do, and what I do isn't very nice" Whoa! Easy Wolverden. Watch out for this hero when he's on the prowl. His deadly claws do not paint a pretty picture. They did come in handy for cutting the cake though. Thanks Wolverden!

Wonder Twins: The most powerful Supers of them all. Their baby face's are a perfect disguise. One drop of their venomous drool and you're toast. Their ear piercing wails torture the soul making you beg for mercy. "Wonder Twin powers - ACTIVATE!"

And here's one of them in action now! Moments after taking this photo this villain was on her back pleading for her life. Ah yes, the Wonder Twins. Run for your life if you ever cross this dynamic duo.

And a Super Hero Party isn't complete without CAPED CRUSADERS!!

Super Girl - Leave the saving of the world to the boys? "I don't think so", is what you'll hear from this gal. She may be cute but villains beware! Once her death stare is upon you there is no turning back.

And no hero is complete without their trusty sidekick.

Super Alex - This looks like a job for...SUPER ALEX! Using his powers for good, not evil, this super hero can leap tall buildings in a single bound. He can spin faster than a tornado leaving you in a cloud of dust. But with great power comes great responsibility...one which Super Alex does not take lightly.

Asa Man - You might as well try to stop the tides and the wind than try to stop this crusader. He will BEAT.YOU.DOWN. He can endure fits of bad tempers for hours at a time. Surrender? "Never!" Woe to those that try to talk him down!!

A few Supers were missed in the mayhem. Here's a group shot though. You'll notice there is no Asa Man. He was out throwing a fit....er, I mean out fighting crime. Yes that's it. He was out fight crime that happens at every birthday party. Crime never ends, folks. Crime never ends.

And what do Super Heroes eat? CAKE!!

Tomorrow Asa is 4

These are Asa's "official" 4 year pictures we took at my friend Carrie's place. We had a blast! I love going out there. I really *feel* like I live in Texas when I'm there. Asa was a little afraid of the horses though...but seemed to warm up to them at the end.

I have to say, 4 is an AWESOME age. You can tell Asa is finally starting to "get it". We can explain things to him and he understands. He apologizes if he's been bad without being told to and he LOVES to hear rewarding words from us. Over the past year Asa has really suprised us. He's an exceptional big brother. We were a little worried how it would go. But he's always very concerned about Chloe. I love how he talks to her "hey precious". So cute. He repeatedly tells us he loves us...running the words together "Mom, Iloveyousomuch". He's REALLY into sports now! And my non-sports inclined husband is just trying to keep up! He also RUNS! Runs like a madman! ...in the backyard, in the store, in the rain, in flipflops. It doesn't matter. And you can see he is running with all his might. He tells really awesome tall tales too...stories about when he flew a plane 7 years ago and aliens crashed into him. He's that kid that starts talking to you in line and asks you a million questions. He still throws his fair share of tantrums, he loves to debate (we're thinking politics for him), he gives the best damn hugs in the world, he is still incredibly sensitive (I hope he doesn't lose that), he's a self proclaimed "big boy", he is so full of life! We just love this kid so much. He really makes us proud every single day. Happy Birthday "Big Boy"

She's 20lbs of lovin, eats cereal/fruits/vegs, sits up on her own, had her first trip to the ER after falling off my bed and hitting her head on my wood floor :( I will not be winning mother-of-the-year for that one), still HATES her carseat, enjoys watching her big brother's antics, laughs at everything, excitedly breaths in and out when she sees her dada, enjoys rocking with mommy before bedtime, is very much loved! Wow, 6 months! Can't believe it. We love you so much Chloe ... Please don't grow up too fast.

Mother's Day "Mini Shoots"

I actually thought about this picture the other day and dug through boxes until I found it. And it got me thinking...this is the ONLY picture I have of me and my mom from my childhood. Seriously, this is it.

And then I thought, well this is crazy! Why don't I have more pictures of us together? And the reason is likely because Life is busy my friends! There's always something to do and never enough time to do it! The year's go by in a flash and before you know it kids are grown.

I'd like you to really think for a second... how much would YOU like to have a nice portrait of you and your mom? Would you care if your mom didn't have on a perfect outfit or could have lost a few extra lbs? Probably not! And if you're one of the lucky that DOES have a nice photo, you likely treasure it very much. And when you look at it your are instantly filled with memories. So wouldn't you want your own children to have something like this? A piece of their childhood WITH their mom. I just think it's so important.

My point with all this, is to offer a different perspective. Adults come up with all KINDS of excuses not to take photographs...gotta lose weight, gotta get a haircut, a new outfit, not enough time...yada yada. But coming from someone who has ONE single snapshot with their mother, I can tell you that from a child's perspecitve, we don't care about all that. I only wish I had more of these photos.

Why God Made Baby Girls

...so we can drool over back fat and spaghetti straps. There's pretty much no other time in life back fat and spaghetti straps will this good! lol. I just love these little outfits that expose their backs. Quick! Somebody get me a spoon so I can eat her up!

Ok...and I have a confession to make about this little outfit she's wearing. I bought it back when Asa was about 6 months old in 2005. I found it mistakenly put in the boys sale rack at Babies R Us and I couldn't take my eyes off it. I bought it and always knew I would have a baby girl to put in it. I never did that again with any other clothing...it was just one of the strange moments. When I found out I was having a girl I turned my house upside down trying to find it. This all sounds goofy, I know, but it's just cool to finally see an outfit on a baby who was just a figment of my imagination when I bought it.

Oh, and she's an official sitter now!

Yay the bonnets are blooming! I can't help but laugh at these. Isn't she so cute?! And just growing like a weed! I have such mixed emotions about this whole "growing up" thing. I'm equally delighted & frightened at the sheer speed this child is growing! I often get an anxious feeling, like I must hold her right NOW because before I know it she'll be running away from me! I don't mind kids growing up but why do they have to do it so fast!? Especially this little bug. She's in the 95th percentile for weight!

She was so interested in the crate and flowers that I hardly got any eye contact!

They say people display their innate personality as early as the infant stage. Please oh please let this be true because Chloe is the happiest baby. It would be wonderful if this transfers into a happy child. Considering what a "live wire" her brother is she's a much needed breath of fresh air....a saving grace if you will.

...the amount of time she sat up like this. It took several tries but I finally got one that looks ok. You can tell she doesn't have the most "pleasant" look on her face. lol. I love how the hat tassels perfectly cover her little nipples....she's a discreet baby. hehe...

This photo below is a perfect example of why I continue to harass my family for pictures. Right before taking these, Asa had fallen asleep for a nap and taking pictures was the LAST thing on Sean's mind. But after some beguiling I talked him into it. It may not be perfect, but in years to come, these two will look at this picture and treasure it! So just remember (Sean) when I harass you for photos it's really because I want you to have good memories, ok?! ;)

100 Days

And like the president, we have closely watched the first 100 days since Chloe's arrival. Fortunately, for Chloe, she doesn't have to live up to the same expectations as the president, like fixing a trillion dollar deficit, record high unemployment, Iraqi war, global warming, medicare, the failing stock market, social security, Korea, the dollar!!! Whew...yes Chloe is lucky.

Chloe is now 14lbs, sleeps through the night (for the most part), can stand on my lap for short periods, talks/coos/giggles anytime you give her attention, loves her swing, hates her car seat, is fascinated by Asa & her mobile, flails her arms and legs when placed on her back (not in an unhappy way though), chews on her fingers, hates tummy time, enjoys a warm bath and loves being held.

We are very proud of our baby girl. Happy 100 days Chloe!

The adventures of Asa & Bojangles

I've had this idea in my head forever and finally got to do it with my friend Andrea's Boston, Mr Bo. Obviously with children and animals it didn't turn out EXACTLY like I wanted but I think I got a few good shots. Both child & animal were pretty well behaved I must admit...but when they're done, they're done.

I made this one kind of vintagey. It reminded me of a Kim Andersen photo.

My first session in over 7 months! wow! And with an awesome senior to boot! I happen to know Anthony personally and let me tell you he is a GREAT kid. I've never met a more sweet and polite young man his age before. He's also an extremely talented musician. I know because I hear him practice every day! ha! Good luck Anthony, I know you are going to do great things!

On a side note, I'm not "officially" back yet. I've had a few people inquire about scheduling a session and just wanted mention that I'll be sending out info when I'm back in the game!

hmmm...I have a love/hate relationship with these stretch pants....Oh so comfortable but oh so ugly. I had some really cute jeans on before we left but DANG they were tight! So I opted for the MC Hammer pants...errr. I feel like a tard in this picture.

Isn't this picture so cool? They were both looking at a hayride tractor that went by which created the hazy, dust cloud in the background. And then add to that awesome evening backlight. I didn't process this picture any different than the picture above. Just a soft light layer and a little saturation. It's ALL about the light!

The Room

Well here it is! The "Alice in Wonderland" room. We worked really hard on this room ESPECIALLY my friend Carrie. She was really the mastermind behind the whole thing. She officially finished Friday and I was so excited to get the room all put together. I tried my best, but the photos just don't do the room justice. It's just AWESOME and I can't thank Carrie enough for all the hard work she put into it.

And this is the ceiling. It's the rabbit going down the hole...only your looking up. Awesome right!? I also found a "flea market" style chandelier at Pottery Barn. (although not at a flea market price! ha) It really works perfectly in the room though.

And for kicks here is Asa's "Yellow Submarine" room. Carrie painted this as well a few years ago. She is SO amazingly talented. I wish I could link to her...but she STILL doesn't have a website. Come on girl, shake a leg! :)

My friend Carrie and I are working on the mural for the baby's room. Here is some of the art that's going on the walls along with some of the textiles. Can you guess what the theme is?

Also, since the baby's room used to be my office I had to move (squeeze) my office space into my bedroom. So here's what that looks like now. I thought it came out pretty good! Gotta love Ikea and The Container Store!!

A couple things I learned this weekend...

1. Shooting mid day really isn't so bad. Your colors look awesome and finding shade pockets really isn't that hard. In fact, if you put your subject in a shade pocket right next to light shining on concrete it acts as a natural reflector. Some might say DUH!! but I just figured that out...

2. Always let your subject take a nap before going to shoot

3. No matter how many times you try, the 50mm is just not meant for full body shots. It's job is to make beautiful head/mid body shots.

4. Men get PMS too

5. Don't be afraid to go to a certain location just because you think you'll be chased off or people will wonder what the hell your doing. I don't know why but sometimes that holds me back. You might miss out on an interesting spot!

Oh yes I did put my pregnant butt in roller skates. hahaha....I'm dying at these pictures. We actually drew a crowd at the laundry mat across the street. I'm sure they thought I was crazy. Don't worry, I know this looks dangerous but I was really careful! Sean helped me get to each spot and I didn't actually move after that.

Another lake trip

yes another trip to the lake but this time we stayed in a pimpin lake house near Gun Barrel City. The house next door was for sale for 1.2 mil. It was nice to see how the other half live for a while. So here go some pics...I posted quite a few so bare with me. I'm on a "maternity leave" from photography and I guess I got a little trigger happy out there. The belly has grown too big to do photo shoots right now.

Anyway, I'm also having monitor issues after re-calibrating last night. These pics look completely different now from when I edited them. So if anyone sees this...let me know how these photos look to you. Thanks!

We went to a pirate party on Sat that extended into a late night party for the adults, so we ALL got to sleep in. woo! Asa even got to see a REAL pirate too! Of course I forgot my camera and don't have anything to share from the party darnit! But he had a blast running around like a mad man and staying up till midnight! We got up Sunday morning and he recapped the night for me. He's so funny and animated. That mouth never stops moving!

Remember that photography workshop I went to, ohhh, back in APRIL!? Well, I finally got a chance to edit some of the pictures. I took around 800 pictures in 3 days!! So finding the time to go through all the photos was proving to be impossible. I did, however, find some really cool software that really helped me out. It easily lets you view, rate, and categorize RAW files just like PhotoMechanic but it's FREE! It's called ViewNX but it's only available for Nikon users.

Anyway, here are some photos from the 3 days. It was an awesome experience. I can't say enough about Amy, Michael and Fred. They are all truly gifted photographers! And I'm so glad I got to meet them.

This is my good friend Melissa's brand new baby boy, Mr. Jack! He was the cutest, sweetest thing and I LOVED holding him...gave my rusty arms some much needed practice! This is the first newborn shoot I've done in about a year and I was quickly reminded of how hard it is! It's very rewarding to see all the hard work pay off because I think we got some awesome shots!

Lake Trip

I must apologize in advance for the ridiculous amount of pictures in this post. You see...this is my family and I know as much as they love me...they hate my camera. However, this day there was no whining, no eye rolls, no huffs of frustration when I pulled out the trusty Nikon. The stars must have been perfectly aligned and the Gods were surely smiling upon me, for they indulged me and did what ever I asked them to do! It was AWESOME!!!!

Annual Darrian & BJ visit

My first official wedding! And what an amazing time we had! I get the warm and fuzzies when I think about it. Sarah and Charlie were the most wonderful couple to work with. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and loved getting out of my photography comfort zone. I'm honored they trusted me to capture their special day. I put together a slide show of my favorites from the day. This slide show really doesn't do the photos justice. To give you an idea the entire slideshow, WITH music, is smaller in size than 1 picture. But it is fun to watch! I'll try and put better quality photos up later.

My 8-5 job is really busy, my 3 year old begs to be spanked daily, general blahness and oh yeah I'm 4 months pregnant. I can't believe my baby is 3!! I know it's said WAY TOO MUCH but kids grow up so fast! Seems like just the other day I found out I was pregnant. Now I have a big kid telling ME what to do! This last year Asa has really found his voice! He talks constantly! He loves hanging out with adults and having conversations with them. And if I can just brag for a minute...his teacher's all say he is really advanced with his speech and social skills. The sharing skills need some work though. He also found the joys of cartoons this last year. Any and every cartoon!

Here are a few more random achievements this year: learned to ride a tricycle; eat salad; help clean his room; say please and thank you without being told to; PEEPEE IN A POTTY!!!; sleep in a big boy bed; realized books are fun to read instead of ripping every page out; developed a flip flop fetish; found love for Frank & the cat; decided he wants a motorcycle; sing ABC song by himself; there's more but that's all I can think of right now...

Fossil Rim

This week I went to an awesome photography workshop in Glenrose, Tx. I have SO MANY photos to go through...like around 800 or so! It will take me a few days to get some of those on the blog. But before the workshop Sean, Asa and some friends of ours, all made the trip to Glenrose to go visit Fossil Rim. It's basically a drive through animal farm. Asa had a blast!
